Keyboard on new Surface Pro 11 does not always pair with unit upon startup

I am on my second keyboard/cover for my new Surface Pro 11 and am experiencing the following issue: On some startups -- not the majority of them -- the keyboard does not pair with the Surface Pro unit. The only solution has been to detach the keyboard from the unit and reattach it. I have cleaned the contacts (although this issue arose almost immediately out of the box after purchase), and followed a few other suggestions that I found online. One thing I have not done is reinstall the drivers. I can't imagine that they are out of date and a check of each says that they are up to date and the best drivers for the unit.) So, my question is this: if two different, new keyboards have experienced the same problem, does it sound like the issue is with the Surface unit itself? And if so, what other remedies are there before I turn it over to an expert?

Be sure to look at Miles' workarounds. I've referred back to them in some of my posts, too. Still annoying that it doesn't just work right, but at least you can avoid having to detach and reattach the keyboard, causing wear and tear. I use the workaround of pressing the on button before opening the keyboard, and that seems to solve it.

I have the same problem with my Surface Pro 11 and the keyboard I purchased for it at the same time. For the amount of money you people charge for a simple keyboard, the damn thing should work properly! I should not have to detach and reattach the keyboard every time I start my computer! I've done the chat thing with Microsoft Support twice and am tired of wasting my time to try and fix a defective product that you peddle. I'd be happy with a solution that works.

I agree, Kathy, they are great devices... when they work. We have purchased eight so far. At least they fixed the wobbly line issue with older models (when drawing diagonally). Numerous people complained, but they took no action until later models. Also, the ARM processor opened a slew of issues. I'm done with it and I'll give another company a try.

I'm not quite there because it's still a great device and at least there are good workarounds. But I hear you!

The thing I'm not completely happy with, and it's my fault for not doing more research on the specs, is the Snapdragon processor that doesn't allow a few things I would like to have done. But for my more casual needs at this point, it's a great, portable device.
