Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

    Why would MS allow the system to go into hibernate after 120 minutes, which is the default power plan? Are they attempting to break our hard drives?

    I was able to replicate timings which show a repeatable issue with wake up when a SP4 keyboard is attached. I think this is the root cause of many of the problems listed above.

    Test devices:

    SP4 M3 4gb RAM - all MS patches applied using standard update process.

    SP4 keyboard cover

    Test 1.  No keyboard.  Power on from Sleep.  Result is good

    I seemed to get very similar results, except hibernate with keyboard folded back took 60 seconds to logon screen. i5/8GB/512GB.

    However, I cannot be sure it's really sleeping because I was able to get past logon screen without password, although I have that set on required. I'm using Hello/facial, but I tested with screen turned completely away from my face.

    Nice detective work regarding keyboard folded back. I think new thread regarding keyboard results would be a good idea.

    EDIT: After a few minutes after tapping sleep on the power menu a password is required. Seems like when tapping sleep the screen turns off and appears to be asleep, but maybe it only goes into sleep a few minutes later.

    I'm losing patience. It's unacceptable to have to struggle with work-arounds for a device like this. Unfortunately I've been patient beyond the Best Buy return period (I bought it on day one). Does anyone know if Microsoft will take these back even if one were to buy it from Best Buy? At this point I'd rather have a surface pro 3...
