Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

Sounds like your failure mode was far more consistent then mine, and may have been related to you partitions, possibly the suspend partition.

Mine is intermittent - it certainly isn't "guaranteed to fail to wake".  I was surprised to see it wake just fine when I came down to my study this morning - but it wedged last evening during a fairly short (definitely less than 2 hrs) interval after dinner.  This is definitely intermittent for me, and so far, no idea of what triggers it and no way that I could reliably reproduce the problem.  (I have a small suspicion that Bluetooth/USB power management may play a part in this new problem, due to weird BT speaker reconnection beeps every few minutes after the screen dims.  Like the wake problem, this was a problem several months ago that (mostly) went away until reappearing recently.)

I only know that I really thought we had left this hideous Surface Sleep of Death T-Rex in rear view mirror, but apparently, it's caught up and jumped into the back of the Jeep with us for the ride.

I didn't want a new computer (other than the Surface Studio) for Christmas, but now I'm reconsidering - I doubt the SS is ready for prime time, and I need a computer I can rely on to get my work done- sadly, after this "upgrade" my SP4 is no longer suitable for that role.  After two years of putting up with the horrid instability of the Surface family, I'm just not up to waiting another year for a flaky possible fix...

Thanks ForceTalent - I'm just about to try your complete rebuild suggestion.  I don't know if this help but my experience to date is that even after a rebuild the NEW Cover with Fingerprint Reader seems to be the issue.  Rebuilt using Old Blue cover that came with an SP3 and dont have any issues.  Swap to the New Cover and hey presto wont wake up from sleep.

I'm travelling with my wife this week. I have Surface Pro 4 and she has SP3 with the new type cover with the fingerprint reader. It seems to work for her, but let me see what happens if she leaves it off for a longer time. Right now she's running Windows 10 Pro v 1607 OS Build 14393.693.

I'm going to put this SP3 I'm on to sleep for a while and see what happens. I'll report back later. @Paul-ITAV, what version of the OS are you running?
