Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

    Adding another comment to this threat in hopes that Microsoft releases a fix for this issue...

    My Surface Pro 4 works perfectly fine otherwise, although this single issue is a BIG issue. I was about to make a presentation yesterday, when this device wouldn't turn on, and I had to embarrassingly take a longer time to restart the device.

    Please fix...if anyone has any other simple fixes in the meantime, I would greatly appreciate it.

    I think the best simple fix in the meantime is to change Sleep settings to Hibernate.

    Although they won't say so in this forum, Microsoft is well aware of the problem and working on a fix. They reported this week that the fix should be available early in the new year.

    There are a number of variables in the experiences above - how the device was shut down, how the keyboard was being used, was the device powered or on battery, and especially when people start mashing the buttons on frustration.

    I was able to replicate timings which show a repeatable issue with wake up when a SP4 keyboard is attached. I think this is the root cause of many of the problems listed above.

    I wasn't sure if i should start a new thread - so keeping the results here.  Do you get the same results?

    Test devices:

    SP4 M3 4gb RAM - all MS patches applied using standard update process.

    SP4 keyboard cover

    Test 1.  No keyboard.  Power on from Sleep.  Result is good

    Instant wake up.

    Test 2.  No keyboard.  Power on from Hibernate.  Result is ok

    Dark screen for approx 2 seconds

    Surface logo for approx 5 seconds

    Surface logo and spinner for approx 7 seconds.  

    Test 3.  Keyboard attached (folded behind the tablet).  Power on from Sleep.  Result is poor

    Dark screen for approx 12 seconds before logon screen appear

    Just having a dark screen is poor - people are not sure if they really hit the power button so they tray again which leads to confusion.

    Test 4.  Keyboard attached (folded behind the tablet).  Power on from Hibernate Result is UNACCEPTABLE

    Surface logo appears after approx 2 seconds

    Surface logo remains for next 90 seconds!

    Surface logo and spinner for approx 7 seconds

    Screen goes blank for an instant before the logon screen appears.
