Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

I did this procedure a couple of days ago. For some reason the Surface just wouldn't do anything other than view the word "Surface" on the screen. It took about 20 minutes of retrying until it did shut down and restarted.

Since I purchased the Surface last November I have had the screen lock 4 times and this one was the worst.

Every time I check for updates and it says my Surface was up to date...

The next time I will get out my camera and take a picture of the condition.

I'm still getting the hot bag. Can't afford more down time after 2 replacements already. Very disapointed. To think I went for SP4 rather than book as expected 4th Gen to be Sorted!

Great find. I am glad someone somewhere else is reporting on the issue. If MS would simply acknowledge the issue and take responsibility things would be different. Since the 5/24 update I haven't had a single wake from sleep issue and I have lot 1548 (from the box) and model 1724. Since December I've likened my SP4 to a car that would only start sometimes and while now it is starting all of the time I still have a great deal of mistrust. However, I'm keeping my bus pass handy. What I have noticed on occasion since 5/24, is that frequently I open the typecover , I click the power button and the keyboard lights up but the screen stays black. However, when I then click the power button again, the screen comes on. I could live with that but the anxiety I feel when I don't see the screen come on with the keyboard is not pleasant. I keep expecting the SP4 to revert to the pre-5/24 behavior and fully believe now it is a matter of time. I'll be the first to post when it does happen.

I had not had a sleep of death issue on my SP4 in about 6 weeks, all seemed well.

Latest updates have bought it back for me. I'm beyond frustrated that MS releases a firmware / driver update that fixes one thing, makes two things worse and completely breaks something else.

Literally will not buy MS hardware again on the back of this expensive, unreliable piece of ****.
