Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

Hi all,  I've been having problems the past few months with my Surface but haven't thought to share until today.  It seems somewhat random but if I power on my Surface every once in awhile (always after a clean shutdown) it will power on, fan will kick in low and the type cover will light up, the Surface logo will display, then the display will go dark, not displaying a black screen but completely off.  It will never recover from this state, the only way to get around it is to press and hold Power + Volume up for 15-20 seconds and wait for it to power cycle.

I've had it do it in a variety of circumstances.

    • When a USB device is attached (Namely a USB NIC or USB headset)

-The Surface is connected to my docking station (the Pro 3 docking station.  I only have a wireless mouse and a LAN connection on the dock, no other devices.

-When the Surface is powered on with only the Type Cover 3 attached.  I have not purchased the Type Cover 4 yet and it could be an incompatibility issue?

The only time I have not experienced this issue when the Surface was properly shut down and no peripherals are attached, including the type cover, then power it on.  Never had a problem doing exactly that.

I have not disabled the fast boot in Windows 10 yet because if it fixes it I will stop messing with it.  I should not have to disable a default Windows Feature to allow the power to turn on. (Namely people I recommend the Surface to will not understand why you have to turn off the fast boot to have the computer work properly)  It's not a solution, it's a patch fix.

Not sure if they have faulty firmware or what, I work through it but it's a royal pain some times.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

My latest SP4 is lot 1604, which was brand new when I bought it on the ill-fated 2/17 (it immediately updated itself with the new updates released that day, and never ran without them.)  I didn't pay any attention to the lot number of previous units...

Thanks for the tip! Installing as we speak.

I've been saying Microsoft needs to do something to revise its management in the wake of this fiasco, but this wasn't quite what I had in mind :).
