Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

My SP4 used to crash 3-5 times a day, not waking up from sleep or screen dimming. The updates are all current.

I did 3 things that seems to have solved the problem for now:

    1. I uninstalled BitDefender Total Security as I found that the program would automatically change the SP4's power settings.
    2. I then restored the power plan to default settings.
    3. I unchecked the stay connected to WiFi while asleep boxes.

I have not changed the usb root hub power management settings (the box is still checked).

Hopefully the stability will continue and I hope this is of use to others.

Since I got the new hardware, lot 1613...zero issues!!! I'm not saying something won't break in the hardware and they will crop up, but it's definitely the hardware. And as time goes on it the battery life seems to be getting better and better...I no longer cringe when waking the device from sleep, and feel safe leaving apps open.

Everyone, save the headache, go to the store and get a new machine. Or on the phone with support, get real and emotional like you are on here, and demand a new machine. If they say they can't, say you want to speak to their boss...and keep repeating this until you get to someone who can get you a new machine or lodge a formal complaint.

Bombard them on the phone, it seems the only way. In the stores, it's definitely easy, they get it. The people on the phone are low level techs in another country getting paid peanuts

and i am in a country that microsoft have no Official Store, i can just put my surface in a Trash Bin and sent it to Microsoft! 2000$ Device...

you can send it (there are no Microsoft stores near me either)

I've just received email, my replacement device is on its way to me.

I hope it's going to be alright.

That would be another confirmation it's hardware issue that can be solved only by replacement device.

Received a new one 1724, a few charge cycles.

Interesting: it has different firmware preinstalled, for example brightness settings are in %, the old one had "darkest, darker, ...", and other minor differences (and probably more important differences in drivers?)

Zero wake problems - works absolutely flawless - wakes up every time, cover/no cover, 100% chance of success, short sleep, long sleep, doesn't matter - works everytime

However this unit has other problems such as Windows Halo using normal camera instead of infra  red, problems with installing drivers (had to fix it manually by removing devices etc.), none of this problems affected my old device.

So I am leaving this thread and ... joining other threads (about IR camera for instance) :)

USB fix / Hibernate may be better for you than risking another set of problems with a new device, your call. Good luck.
