Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

Yesterday, after the updates, my SP4 was Sleeping for the night.  In the morning, I had to do a hold power button/vol up to wake it up.  I haven't had this problem now for a long time, and it woke fine this morning.  One problem is getting spooked by the whole thing. I'm waiting with baited breath whenever I wake it even though only once incident in several months.  And now I wonder, what was that? A random hiccup, or evidence of an ongoing problem that may still get worse?

    Hi,

I have had my brand new Surface Pro 4 for about a month and am overall very happy with it; apart from one massive problem! All my power settings are set to 'sleep' my surface, however whenever I leave my surface for more than half an hour it wont wake from sleep and I have to force a restart! I have tried changing the timings for sleep / lock screen times, changed the power button settings and updated drivers. Does anyone have any further suggestions? It is seriously disrupting my work as every time I come back to my desk I have to force a restart and re-open everything I was working on! Thanks!

This happens to me everyday and everytime my machine wakes from sleep mode.

It happens to several users as well.

Had an early 15xx lot number and was having the not waking issue 90% of the time. Spoke to MS info desk and they walked me through a bunch of BS before telling me I was eligible for a replacement. About 3 days later I received my replacement unit (I believe lot 1604) and had no issues. Woke EVERY TIME without fail. About a week into having it I put insider builds on it and still no issues. Not a single issue for over a month. Kept getting insider builds and got all the way up to build 15332 and then I started having an issue where every time I hit the power button, or let it go to sleep on its own, it would immediately go into hibernate. Changed the hibernate time to 240 minutes, same issue. Changed it back to the default 120mins, same issue. I then decided to disable hibernate by typing in powercfg.exe /h off into cmd prompt. This fixed the hibernating issue, and all was well again. Woke every time, no issue. I then updated to build 15342, and NOW the sleep of death issued appeared. Back to 90% of the time the computer wouldn't wake up and the only way to bring it back was to hold the power button for 15secs and restart. Turned hibernate back on with cmd prompt, same issue. Sleeep of death over and over again. Deleted all the firmware drivers, reinstalled them all, deleted the display driver, reinstalled, same issue. Sleep of death 90% of the time.

I then decided to roll back to build 15332, and the sleep problem disappeared.  Turned it off with the power button, let it sleep on its own, wakes EVERYTIME. With build 15442 sleep of death, with build 15342 no issues. Seems to be some sort of a software/driver issue to me..... Not saying its the build causing the issue, just something that happens when its upgraded, something with drivers, OS refresh, something......

UPDATE: Rolled all the way back to a Non Insider image I had stored. Then updated to 15442 and everything is working fine again. No sleep of deaths, no hibernation issues.
