Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

Hi, I've got exactly the same problem, Pro 4 goes into sleep, need to do a soft reboot, every time, I've taken to shutting down every time I stop using it for more than half an hour etc...come on Microsoft get this fixed please Philip

This week I brought my Surface pro 4 (i7/16/256) back to the Dutch ‘Mediamarkt’.

Now I think, beside the black screen of death the gesture thing is hardware related.

They will send the Pro 4 to Microsoft NL??? It will take approximately 3 weeks… Pffff.

So I borrowed my old Pro3 from my son.

This Pro3 does not have any wakeup from sleep problems.

But I was curious so I run the checks from this forum;

•Yes, sfc /scannow gave several errors;

•And de Surface Diagnostic toolkit installed the missing Watchdog timer.

I did the repair, but I don’t think the opencl.dll and watchdog will help to solve our problem.

I doubt anyone from Microsoft even reads these forums.

I find that the best way to get things addressed is by Tweeting about the issue.

Companies hate bad PR that can affect other customers' decisions to purchase their product.

I would never have bought the Pro 4 the other day if I had known about this flaw.

This is a big enough issue to stop any customer from buying this product.

I have Tweeted @MicrosoftHelp and @Microsoft, with #SurfacePro4 to draw attention to this thread's URL.

Recommend everyone do the same so we can get some real answers.

Hi,

I have a Surface Pro 4 i5, and have been having the no wake from sleep problem for months, like many people.

I have all updates correctly installed as far as I can see, and I am running Insider Build 14332.

I have experienced fewer problems recently, but on the last two long sleeps, on power, attached to a Surface Dock, I have had a blue screen crash.

Whether it is hardware of software or firmware I have no way of telling, what is clear is that the problem persists, and in a number of guises. I just wish it didn't since except for this, and the not-too-impressive battery life, the Surface Pro 4 is a great device.
