Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

    I prevent my new Surface Pro 4 from going to sleep until when Microsoft comes up with an effective fix for the Pro 4 sleep problem. In the meantime, I have set up a screen saver such that when the Pro 4 becomes idle for 5 minutes screen saver takes over. I avoid sleep like a plaque, by setting all 4 controls in Settings->'Power & Sleep' to 'Never'.

    Aaaaand some 6 hours later... and it's baaaack.  Didn't change any of the settings they made (all "Sleep" settings) other than logging in with Hotmail/Microsoft account.  Came home just now and checked - sure enough, had to hard reset.

    So...NOTHING.

    Your device displays similar behavior to mine before I switched.  Its surely defective.  And I know now that they are making devices that run perfectly with all current firmware.  I still haven't had a sleep crash with the new device.  If I were in your position I would return to the store and explain that this situation just isn't possible.  Bring it to them in a crashed sleep state if possible with nothing installed, just as they gave it to you.  And explain that reports online are showing massive divergence in surface pro hardware.  If they don't want to give you a new one, demand your money back! 

    It just isn't acceptable to have such a wide gap between machines at the same price point.  Now if everyone were suffering the bug to some extant it would be a different story.

    I'm happy I  got a good one, but I'm very displeased with Microsoft's failure to address this and issue a recall for all affected units.  Either that or there should be an immediate replacement policy at the store.  Units need to be tested too and the problem narrowed down to the specific defect on the line!!!!.......

    ..............  Ah yes, but of course, I'm forgetting, Microsoft already knows what the problem is don't they eh? 

    ............. Just going to keep quiet......  hope the problem goes away........

    Wow, yeah I just got 3 Intel driver updates as well! They seem very odd, but I'll report back and see if this fixes the issues!!! Keep me in your thoughts, as we all know, another dead end is extremely frustrating. Installed and rebooting...

    Sorry folks, didn't really work. I should also note I'm on the Release Previous ring of the Windows Insider program. So I have the 10586.218 running, but maybe they are only sending these driver updates to those on Release Preview.

    Anyway, it didn't really work. 4 for 4 it woke from quick sleep...closed SP4 type cover, and waited 30 seconds. That's an improvement. But then I did the same thing with Chrome open, took a shower, came back, and boom...black screen.

    I didn't have my hopes up, so that's good...sad to say, I have little confidence in those at Intel.
