Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

I find the problem happens more often with Windows Hello.

After I've disabled Windows Hello, the problem happens less frequently, but it still happens.

I've also added TrdDelay to 8 in the windows registry, but it doesn't help either.

Frustrated.

I've tried hibernation many times and it does seem to consistently work.

However, hibernation requires writing all memory to the SSD storage each time. Doing it too often may reduce the SSD's life time. (it's probably not significant, but still...)

I hope Microsoft will fix this or provide a workaround soon.

The writing is significant, but only over a period of years and years. If you hibernate EVERY time you put your device to sleep (let's say, 8 times a day?) that's 8 times multiplied by 4GB ram = 32GB of writes JUST from turning it on and off. If you do this every day for a month, you're writing 960GB of data from not sleeping. This is significant over the course of a few months to a few years. But it's insignificant if you do it a few times a day. So it really does depend... Regardless, if you change devices every 2-3 years, you won't see a big difference... But if you plan to keep it over 5-6 years, then yes, you'll see a decrease. 960GB a monthx12 months x 6 years = 69,120GB or 69.12TB of hibernating.

Of course this is assuming you do this EVERY day 8 times. You'll use it less. But this is if you substitute sleep for hibernate.

For their sake, I hope they fix it soon. On my old SP2 I put sleep to 6 hours, so that way it only hibernated maybe once a day at most.

I haven't had the problem since installing the Intel beta video drivers. Consistently wakes up from sleep even using Windows hello.

The battery drain under sleep issue seems to be resolved now too. The problem looked to be the sp4 never actually sleeping due to the video driver issue. Now I can confirm that the sp4 does indeed goes to sleep, and not passing any network traffic. About 5% battery drain after 3 hours of sleep.

For those that have installed the Intel beta video drivers, are you still running into the same problems?
