Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

    Microsoft claimed released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue, but somehow this update isn't for all Surface pro 4. I am using my SP4 in China, and i don't receive that update. 

    I agree with you it must be the display driver crash because it happened all the time when I'm using it. 

    Also, you'e right with SP4 is the most Unreliable tablet/laptop with Windows 10 of ALL TIME!

    I couldn't agree more, DJT7.  There is NO excuse for Microsoft not fixing this immediately.

    Apparently, there is nothing to be done and Microsoft plans on doing it.  They won't even respond to us, despite this thread heading for 1500 comments!

    Mine locked up hard again yesterday while asleep (even without the keyboard cover attached), requiring yet another forced reboot and lost work, and this morning, with the machine docked overnight (it's set to "never sleep" when plugged in), it AGAIN refuses to recognize the 4K monitor attached to the SP3 dock - this time, not from sleep, but just from being locked.

    Actually, that's not quite true - the SP4 knows what the monitor is, and it knows it's connected, it just refuses to send it any video until (again, this is getting really old), I uninstall the video driver and reboot.  (Dock/undock cycles do not provoke it to work again, even if you power-cycle the dock after undocking and before reconnecting.)

    I have no idea how ordinary non-technical users can even keep a Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book even sort-of running and productive at all - diddling with device manager and turning on hidden settings to hibernate instead of sleep is NOT a solution.  (My second replacement SP4 is factory pristine, with no settings changed other than the one to not sleep on AC power - otherwise, I'd have to reboot it a dozen times a day, even in the dock...)

    HIBERNATE is NOT an acceptable alternative for a tablet-type device - it creates huge thought friction, and should only be used to save the state of the machine (and more importantly, our WORK) just before the battery dies. (Microsoft seems to agree, since Hibernate isn't even turned on by default, and you have to dig a bit to even see that you CAN turn it on.  The only reason any of us are using it at all is because sleep is completely broken.)

    The Surface Pro 4 is the MOST UNDEPENDABLE computer I've ever encountered.  You have to screw up pretty bad to earn that status!  I have to rely on a $125 Walmart Android tablet for mobile browsing, since the SP4 is completely unusable in a portable tablet role.  It works and wakes up instantly every time, though...

    Perhaps they'd respond to us if enough negative reviews and one star ratings were posted on the page http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/productID.325711500 where they are selling them. 

    Marking appropriate one star reviews there as "helpful" might be effective too.

    This is crazy how Microsoft has got itself into. all the hatred on this issue. As the most basic function for a computer/tablet, Surface Pro 4 has failed us all. 

    I just left the review, and hopefully microsoft response to our demand and fix the issue immediately!
