Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

    Hello All,

    I am unsure of the excitement of this mail.

    Just as I was going to respond to the mail, guess what. The black screen of death.

    Followed the normal reset procedure......

    At least, we now have someone from Microsoft (EE ??) showing some concern.

    I hope that more details of what is going on will be revealed in the coming days.

    What is an EE?

    Personally I gave up ages ago as every time I let it sleep if fails. I have created a CTRL-ALT H desktop shortcut for hibernate. At least it is safe if not ideal.

    As far as I know, an EE is an Electrical Engineer - but it may mean something different at Microsoft.

    Clearly there are ongoing problems with the SP4.  But it seems that for most, it is a minor nuisance of occasionally not waking up, and that is remedied by things like closing cover again, or Ctrl-alt-del .   But others have a significant issue where nothing wakes it short of the power button for 30 second shut down.  

    Here is the dilemma.  Suppose 1% of SP4 are severely impaired.  That is a large number of machines, but to MSFT, perhaps they see it as normal variance.  So those with this major issue don't get satisfaction, but MSFT gets kudos from others, and continues to sell the product.  If they admit anything on this board, it affects sales.  So as a profit oriented entity, this is how they behave.  Behavior like this makes a compelling case at times for nationalization of industry, or at the least, much more consumer protection (like Lemon laws for cars).  

    The other issue is that folks keep saying on this board they "are not returning the SP4".  If I had the severe issues, I would take it back to the store and devote some time at the store to make sure the new machine I get doesn't have the severe problem.  If you don't do that, MSFT has little reason to do anything.
