Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

Did not experience any issues with my Surface Pro 4 i7 until this update.  Now anytime my Surface goes to sleep when closing the type cover, it will not wake up and requires a hard reboot.  Have not tried other methods of putting it to sleep, not looking for workarounds.

Despite how annoying this may be, I do find it to be quite humorous that a bug was introduced that causes the very behavior the update was looking to resolve.

EDIT: Any assistance in how to roll back the faulty update would be appreciated.

It seems some are claiming no problem with waking from sleep.  For those, are you finding that the back is warm during sleep?  I am wondering if that is because it is not really sleeping, and hence it wakes easily.  Mine is always warm during sleep, but it does wake.  It is not warm during hibernate, nor is it very warm when I am using it for routine email or surfing.

It will disable the (for some) broken feature, which can kick in when leaving your device alone for some minutes (it will then go to sleep) which can lead to the "unable to wake" problem.

As far as I can see there were 3 types of problems:

    1. Black screen (but working camera), when trying to recover from sleep. This one is fixed in the newer display driver. Workarounds were: WindowsKey + P or CTRL + ALT + DEL
    2. Connected Standby which is draining your device due to software (or a driver), like your mouse which is keeping your PC from getting into deep sleep. If your device is able to wake from sleep, you could try and locate the drain using: powercfg /sleepstudy.
    3. Connected Standby + deep sleep, which is putting your device into a deeper sleep, before the 2/17 update this didn't happen, therefore people are experiencing problems with it now. Your device is unable to turn itself completely on, and the only thing working is the backlight of your keyboard.

When you only suffer from issue 2: Lucky you, your sleep/wake states are working, but a device/driver/hardware or software is draining your battery (just like some apps on your phone can drain your battery), I do think this is software installed by yourself (might even be skype or another chat tool). What you can try is putting off the option "Stay connected to WiFi when in sleep" (or something like that)

When you suffer from 3 (maybe in combination with 2): Well you have to wait for Microsoft to provide a fix for it. Note: You might be suffering from issue 3, but since your device isn't going to the deeper sleep (due to issue 2), you might not suffer from it (but it drains your battery down).

For time-being, I've disabled the connected standby completely, I don't mind waiting for a couple of seconds to boot up (from hibernate). At least it isn't draining my battery.

And there is ofcourse, the people who don't suffer from issue 2 and 3. I wanted to be you!
