Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

Sometimes when I try to turn my SP4 on from sleep it doesn't turn on! I usually plug my charger and take off the keyboard and it starts up after a while. I've installed all the recent updates and I feel like this problem is getting worse after every update. I also had problems with the pen or touchscreen or keyboard not working but I think those issues were solved with the updates.

I've tried contacting microsoft support but everytime I get to the chat or request call, I click the buttons but nothing happens, so I haven't been able to get in touch with tech support. I've tried using my phone but I still have that problem.

does a two button reset help?

Step 1: Swipe in from the right and tap or click Settings, tap or click Power, and then tap or click Shut down to shut down Surface. If you can’t shut down Surface normally, press and hold the power button on your Surface for 30 seconds.

Step 2: After Surface turns off, press and hold volume-up button and the power button on your Surface at the same time for at least 15 seconds, and then release both.

The screen may flash the Surface logo, but continue holding the buttons down for at least 15 seconds.

Step 3: After you release the buttons, wait 10 seconds.

Step 4: Press and release the power button again to turn your Surface back on.

Is it not turning on, or is the screen just black. Look at your keyboard when you wake the machine. Is the backlight on? If it is, then press Win+P, wait a second or two, then press Win+P again. This will toggle the display to look for a projector, then to look for an internal panel. That second step will force the panel to be recognized and it will come up just fine. It's a driver/sleep issue.
