Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

    Hey all!

Just bought a Surface Pro 4 (128GB SSD/4GB RAM/i5 version) at the Microsoft Store here in town about a week ago. I love the device, and have since I worked in the MS Store back during the RT launch. Having a little issue though, that maybe you guys can help with or, if you can't help with it, perhaps you're experiencing it to and we can mutually b**** about it. I've seen plenty of threads about this regarding the Surface Pro 3, but none for the 4, and there are minor variances in the symptoms on mine than on those.

Bottom line: when the Type Cover is attached and I fold it down to get to work, the screen's supposed to wake up as the tablet comes out of Sleep Mode, right? Well, for me, 1 in every 3 times I do that, the screen doesn't wake. The tablet is clearly on and recognizes it's been opened - you can tell because the wonderfully-backlit Type Cover glows with enthusiasm to help me with whatever document I was about to bang out - but the screen stays dead and black, the lazy son of a gun.

I can remedy the issue with a hard reset (power button for 30 seconds), but I mean, come on - what if I've got a document in the works I haven't saved yet?

The only thing I can think might have anything to do with anything is that the problem started shortly after the Facebook Metro app (do we still call them that with W10?) offered to change my user pic and lock screen to mirror Facebook's, which I accepted but... no way, right? Those photos are stored locally, I'm sure, so it couldn't be refusing to render the lock screen because it's having trouble fetching the photo or something.

Any insights would be helpful! All settings are out-of-the-box default. Problem seems most frequent when I don't let the screen wake up organically but instead press the power button after opening the Type Cover, redundantly.

I have exactly the same issue. I just bought SP4 256GB 8GB yesterday, it was fine. Last night 12/Nov/15, I have installed latest update, google chrome and steam. This morning it was fine, but in the afternoon, all the sudden, it won't wake up on power button. I had to hold down power button for 30 second to do a reboot, and it started to have the same issue ever since when SP4 is put in extended sleep.  The symptom is that the keyboard works but screen wont be turned on. I cannot find a solution either, mostly related to SP3 and SP2. Should I return it? I really hope it is just a software bug.

I own a SP4 256GB 8GB and am having the exact same problem described by cannedpeaches.  I do not have Facebook Metro app installed.

It is incredibly frustrating losing data that you didn't save prior to putting the computer to sleep.  I have to save everything before I shut the typeface just in case it decides not to wake up.

Microsoft recommended me to manual restart (screen lock for 30 seconds) followed by pressing the screen lock and volume up for 10 seconds.  I still have the problem after completing this troubleshooting.

Having the exact same issue. I have a feeling skylake was not ready for prime time as this still feels like a driver issue. All these little bugs add up to an unpleasant/inconsistent experience.
