Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

    I've had the same thought too about my device. Luckily, I bought a glass screen protector from Amazon that had a lifetime warranty - when I was taking the screen protector off, it broke in one corner. I emailed them about this and they sent me a code to use on Amazon for zero charge. Many screen protectors have a lifetime warranty, see if yours do also.

    As for reinstalling the software, it's really not that painful. Between file history, dropbox and onedrive, I got all the data back and no big deal reinstalling everything - it was worth doing this to get a device that works as it was meant to.

    FYI, I exchanged a lot 1550 unit for a lot 1604 unit at the MS store - no sleep issues for 2.5-wks. I am not using the USB workaround. And don't bother with the sfc fix, it may give you a proper sleeping for a couple of days at most, but it's a tease.

    I had that opinion, until today. No i don't think, they're "that bad". I think their stupid phone support might be the most awful in the history of awful phone support.... but if you can hop on over to the Microsoft store somewhere I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

    At this point, it's pretty clear that some units work without issue, while others continue to have issue. Some people have had luck returning their device and getting a new device that does not experience the problem.

    You can continue to have a headache and keep hoping for software updates that might or mask your actual hardware problem, or you can exchange it for a new one before your warranty runs out. If it happens again, you better believe i'll be in the store asking for another because this shouldnt be a problem, and some units do not have this issue. Go to the store.

    Quick question for those of you with a working machine and a broken machine (but not with the "don't let windows turn off usb controller" enabled). When you run powercfg /energy do you get an error relating to a USB device refusing to enter sleep state?

    Also, we've passed 200 pages! Congrats! I didn't think we'd make it here, but Microsoft is just that bad!
