Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

    People reporting 17xx lot numbers, don't know what the lot # is and are looking in the wrong place. It's easy to think another number like that is the lot number, I almost did. But unless they invented a time machine, no one can have a lot number greater than the year and week. So 2016 week 13 is a 1613 lot number. That's when it was manufactured, perhaps boxed.

    My unit worked fine as well, for 4 months...it was the February 17th updates, which enabled S0 sleep that exposed the issue. I'm betting that's what caused your unit to start failing. It's doesn't appear to be just some random thing that happens, those February updates are what did it for most people. Either it made your machine better, or it really made it awful.

    MS told you it was faulty hardware? Did they say what exactly was causing the problem? There is a MS store near me, might be worth the trip to go have a chat with them. It would take them telling me directly that I need to exchange in order to get me to give up my SB, which by all appearances and functions is working normally with the USB fix. I've had two previous Windows 8 machines that had this same problem out of the box and both were fixed with patches and work correctly to this day.

    I don't think they're going to offer to replace it, if you tell them it's working normally... but if you tell them your device is not waking from sleep intermittently with that specific setting enabled "out of the box / from factory", then I do believe they'll tell you it is a known hardware issue and it should be replaced.

    I walked in, told them I was there because my surface pro 4 i7 16gb will not resume from sleep state about 40-50% of the time "keyboard lights up but nobody is home".. have to hard reset.. device is up to date.

    The MS guy behind the counter, was not the person helping me... but he shouted over her talking to me, saying "just replace it, its a known hardware issue, if it's up to date and still having the issue". They verified it was up to date, factory reset the device and gave me a brand new one. 

    This new device is not experiencing the issue. My previous device, is experiencing the issue.

    I am aware that the hardware could fail in the future, but the fact that its not experiencing the issue now with the same conditions and same software proves their point. The issue is related to failing hardware, whether you experience it now or later is besides the point.
