Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

It appears some people are experiencing a problem where it appears the SP4 is now hibernating earlier than the setting you have enabled via Settings/Control Panel. MS did make a change recently to the OS that enables an Adaptive Hibernate by default. Details in the article below.

Do you see the Surface logo before you are able to log in? In that case it was actually hibernating. Good for battery, bad for wake time (not to mention that you won't get notifications, can't play music with the screen turned off etc). I have noticed that waking from hibernation takes a few tries, or it at least appears so. Maybe it's just a delay. Anyway, it is highly frustrating that the choice between battery life and fast wake has been taken away without any official explanation.

I also have this experience. Mine was working perfectly until the Jan 2017 update. It still wakes up without reboot but sometimes it takes several tries. Before it woke up immediately.

My surface pro 4 has been waking from sleep perfectly since last March 2016. I recently installed the January 18th 2017 updates and now it takes several tries of pressing a key or the power button to get it to wake up. Something has regressed.

I don't need to reboot anyway but it worked perfectly until this last update.

That batch of updates caused a similar problem for me as well - my SP4 will now hibernate after only one hour of sleep, which is a terrible regression on a mobile device if you ask me (see related thread). The factory default used to be 2 hours, but you could change that in Power settings (which I did, because I prefer a fast wake over battery life). Imagine all the hard work that some Windows team put in to get that fancy Connected Standby™ to (almost) work, for nothing. And imagine me believing that advertised features would actually work.

On a side note, my old and much ridiculed Surface 2 still wakes in an instant, every time.
