Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

Thanks, MikeKirnak.  Can you direct me to the specific posts you referred to?  I am interested in exactly what you did.  I have little confidence in the anecdotal reports that fill this thread.  But I agree that if the same image performs differently on two platforms, then there is a difference in the platforms.

Get the device replaced, software isn't going to fix it. My failing device was lot #1544, the replacement I got after sending that one back has no problems.

Ditto on my 1548, while it is improved, I had three days without a no-wake issue and was really getting hopeful.  However, it is now back and in the last two days has occurred three times.  No different software or configuration changes to my OS or software.  Very disappointing.

Although the problem is much better after this last driver refresh, mine still wedges often enough to still be really frustrating.  Yesterday's Monday morning meetings were interrupted by my SP4 once again refusing to wake (I undocked it, snapped on the type cover, and then closed it to put it to sleep).  As usual, forced power-off/restart was required, losing data in the process.  (Seems like it prefers wedging right after you've said to someone, "See, look at this - I've got it right here...")

Pretty sure my lot 1604 machine isn't ever going to work correctly.  Rumor on the street has it that the Intel power management problems aren't going to be fixed until Kaby Lake, which is also rumored to be the chipset in next year's Surface Pro 5.

Skylake (SP4/SB) owners presumably just have to live with this unholy and house-of-cards fragile mess of patched drivers and firmware to work around the fundamental problems baked into the Skylake silicon...
