Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

    Hmmm,

I installed the beta drivers a few days ago and believed, for a while, that it had resolved the problem. Unfortunately, this morning, I could not wake the machine from sleep, even by using the windows_key-P key combination that has sometimes worked in the past.

I fear it may not be properly fixed yet.

To be fair, this isn't really a MS issue, but an Intel issue. This problem affects ALL devices that uses the new Skylake processors, not just Surface Pro's.

Again, the fix is to install the latest Intel beta drivers, then shut down (not restart) and power back up to reset the hardware. I've confirmed on 4 different SP4 (i7 and i5) that it has completely fixed the problem. None of our Surface Pro users have had a driver crash or wake up problem since the beta driver was installed.

Until Intel takes that driver out of beta and deliver it as a release version for Microsoft, we won't see this in Windows update.

I'll also add that we've found another issue that's affecting battery drain during sleep. Turns out that when you close the lid to make the SP sleep, if you accidentally click a key, touch the touchpad, or move an external (BT or USB) mouse before it goes into sleep mode (about 10-20 second process), the SP cancels the sleep and stays awake, draining the battery.

edit - looks like the latest Windows Update display drivers are in fact the beta drivers that we've been using. Again, make sure you shut down your Surface Pro after install and power back up to avoid any issues.

    I had a similar problem.

The screen didn't turn on, but the device was on.

If it's the same problem, you should still be able to blindly log into your account. If that'd work, you can press the dedicated Windows start key on the keyboard. If you then start typing, it will do so in the search field (Cortana is enabled on my Surface, not sure if this is relevant). For some reason, the brightness of the screen will go up when typing in this field.

Locate the battery icon, click on it and click on the brightness setting and turn it up to at least 50%.

This should prevent your screen from turning off again. To prevent this issue in the future, you should go to the Settings panel > System > Display and toggle "Change brightness automatically" off.

    I hope this helps.

It may be fixed. Microsoft released a driver update today. I have installed it and it seems to resolve the problem for me.

The driver crashing  may be fixed, but the wake up from sleep issues isn't. Driving me crazy. Just hard reset, reinstalled everything including cumulative and firmware. Still has the issue. I'm starting to think this "upgrade" from my sp3 was a big mistake.....

Same for me. Installed the new driver (version 20.19.15.4326, dated November 20, 2015) yesterday. Changed lid closing from hibernate to sleep. Closed the lid. Opened the lid four hours later. Wake up function does not work via mouse and keyboard. Power button brings the word "Surface" up for some seconds, then black screen again. Another power button causes some thirty seconds silence, then the desktop at last opens. So, still has the issue.
