Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

    I've found that when I have this problem (which is way too often) I can get activity by

    a) attaching an external screen (not viable most of the time as I don't carry one in my bag!) then going to display settings and selecting "Detect"

    b) pressing the button on top of the pen to invoke onenote.  This starts okay, then I select the padlock icon in the top left which drops me to the normal logon.

    However it is still a pain and I desperately want a fix!

    I did an interesting investigation. 

    I went to the Harvey Norman(one retail store in Australia) today. They have 3 Surface Pro 4 in display and all turned on. So I closed the lid of one of the devices and made it sleep. 

    I waited there for about several minutes. And tried to wake it up. It had no problems and waked up immediately. I repeated several times, all worked. Also I tried to do the same thing on other 2 devices, all seem to work. 

    I don't know if it is because I didn't keep them sleep long enough or they just happen to be all without this issue. It makes me wonder what the root cause for this...

    Interesting. I'll try that trick to instead of the Win-P next time.

    That's a great find.  I'll try the WindowsKey-P twice trick next time it happens.

    I recently discovered that if I open the lid and the screen is black but the keyboard is lit up, I simply close the lid and wait 10 seconds.  When I open the lid it wakes up right away.  I'm curious if others have luck doing this

    Regarding the question above,

    Are all surface pro users having the black screen issue? The answer is no. I have a friend that has not had the issue after the recent updates, however, he also has the fingerprint reader keyboard, so I'm not sure if that is the reason or not.
