Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

It's a hardware issue easily fixed by replacing the device (sending broken and receiving a new one).

    (3 working days in Europe)

Don't waste your time playing with drivers/settings -- just send it and get a new one.

    Just do it :)

They are hoping that those who bought in the batch 15XX either keep quiet or replace the device. Rather than making a public statement on the matter. Chances are the hardware defect has long since been fixed at the factory.

Thanks.  But I take from  your response that MS cannot tell  us which lot our devices are from?  I bought mine in early December, so it sounds like it could fall into the problem category.

It baffles me as to why there are all of these people complaining yet MS will not deal with the problem.

    I have found my box.

    Model No. 1724

    Lot No. 1541

Purchased at Best Buy on last November

    What should I do?

If it were me, and it was, I would go into a Microsoft store and very politely but insistently try and get a new replacement. You may have to settle for a "New" replacement unit in a plain cardboard box. (A refurb by any other name.) If so, take it back in the next day after it inevitably has problems. Reference this thread and the thousands of replies. Be polite. Get the employees on your side, don't get them pissed at you. Explain all the time and effort you've put in to trying to fix your SP4. Be loud enough that other customers can take notice, but not so loud you seem obnoxious. ( A fine line for sure.) Be the type of customer that other customers respect. Be knowledgeable, respectful, insistent. Don't leave until you have a new in retail box SP4. Bring your old box and all accessories in for the exchange...

If you get a new unit, please post back here as to your results. Good luck!
