Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

Yes same problem. Freezing and then needs to restart. Try to check which application is eating your memory in Task manager. I was able to fix mine, I disabled the background recording of xbox... Just go to Xbox app and then settings.

I'm disappointed not to see any media on this: Verge, Ars, Re/Code, etc.

I see mostly i5/8Gb/256 owners here. Any m3 or i7 units having video problems?  Specifically, is this an Intel HD 520 problem?  Does the Intel Iris unit also freeze?

Owning up to problems would mitigate our frustration.

You can count my vote as someone that agrees that an MVP Insider response of "return and exchange", which I have seen you post here on multiple threads, is a completely unsatisfactory response

FWIW, I agree with what you're saying, that customers should not have to do an OS reload right out of the box with a $900+ product, but I had to do that on my Surface Pro 4, and while it was annoying, it has so far resolved most of the problems

I am also thinking about returning mine but if I do, I am not accepting an exchange. Way too many problems for something that costs almost $2000.

-sometimes wont wake from sleep without voodoo

-screen never flickered but does after latest firmware Dec 17.2015

    -display driver crashes

-wifi always turned off on wake

-kick stand wiggles after a week

    -type cover trackpad quits

-type cover track pad loses gestures, scroll etc

-battery drains unless you use sleep

-space bar broken all of a sudden and stuck down

-pen doesnt track sometimes.. Button works

I love the idea and it's pure joy when it works... But sady owning this thing is just way too frustrating for me.  Its sounding like many are having the same issues.

It doesnt help that the patches and updates dont come with a change log or release notes... And the forced driver updates are a huge liability.

    Close but no cigar.

So, we had another update, and at least one person still had a Sleep problem.  Let's assume Microsoft will provide a fix for this....how would we know that is should be fixed now?  Trial and error, or would they announce the fix has arrived, at least on this board?

They must be afraid to say it's fixed because if it's not, people will be upset.  Or perhaps they still have some corner cases where its still broken.  They clearly want us to guess and speculate which is all we can do since their policy is to provide zero release notes.

Mine does seem to work better since the update but it's only been one day and my issues are intermittent.  If I'm good for 3 or more days then I'll consider it stable enough for business.  We have to wait and see.  Trial and error is accurate and we are just like QA beta testers only we paid lots of money to do it.
