Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

Thanks for the reply Opalchip. Unfortunately it wouldn't power down and the unit's temperature kept rising. After speaking to tech support it needed to be sent back.

Can someone from Microsoft or @SurfaceSupport please respond on this thread telling us what exactly you are doing to fix this?

You specifically asked me to add my experience here but we have heard nothing useful from you about this issue.

We are paying over the odds for these devices which are wonderful except for this long standing deal breaking problem. The cost of the considerable time being spent by your customers on this is starting to have an negative impact on your good will.

Please let us know you are a) listening and b) working on a fix as a priority.

    Thanks

That is very disappointing as I just exchanged for the same model hoping it might be more likely to work than i5. :(

    Does

a couple of presses of Windows key + P not wake up the display? I had some some success with this, even with external monitors connected, whuch adds more states.

Turned on my Surface just now and it won't boot up or stop flashing the "Surface" logo. I just tried the 2 button shut down and that isn't working. Any advice?

I was having a lot of problems early on, and have done a number of full resets, etc.  My machine runs completely fine now.  Here a couple of easy things you can try - which likely won't work - but easy enough. If they don't see option 4. below:

    1. Try detaching the keyboard and starting the Surface without it.
    2. Try turning on with the Volume DOWN button held down (the opposite of the 2 button shutdown). That may lead you to a recovery console which you can try using - or preferably restart from with no changes.
    3. Before going to Option 4., wait and see if anyone else here has a good idea :)

One of those might jigger something enough to get the Surface back on track.

    1. The last resort is to download/create a USB Recovery Drive on another machine and then use it to boot and reset the Surface. I did this a few times, and it works well. You WILL lose all your installed software and have to reinstall it if you need to do it - but there may be no choice. See full instructions explained here:
