Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

I've no doubt they will, especially as it appears to be software related. What's unknown to us is the exact scale of the problem,

The problem is the terrible way this issue is being handled. It's a customer support and PR fail. No sensible messages to us. Quite surprising given the fantastic way Microsoft are again treating developers. I guess it's a big company with many parts and this type of hardware is new to them.

I pinged the CMO so he is at least aware there is an issue.

I've experienced the same problem. When my surface pro 4 goes to sleep, the only way to get it to awaken is a hard reboot. This means I lose amy work that was unsaved.  Microsoft must put out a fix to this asap.  Not good.

You said As an SP4 owner I was not assured even in the slightest that they (MS) were concerned about the issues.  For such a premium priced product for a customer to 'HOPE' that someone is looking into the issues - well it's terrible.

I'm a little more optimistic.  I dislike MS...a LOT.  But the SP4 is a product they very much want to succeed.

The message posted on this site on Dec 11 is another reason for cautious optimism:

A Note to Our Customers from The Microsoft Surface Team

I have a very long history with MS, and there are many reasons for my dislike, but that's another story.  That said, I think they'll figure this out.

FWIW, ever since I set my advanced power settings to hibernate after 2 hours instead of sleep, it hasn't had trouble waking up.

    I'm running the 1511 10586.36 release, btw.

Try pressing CTRL- ALT and DEL one after the other and hold it together (when you want to open task manager).
