Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

    Hello.  I have a surface Pro 4 that is suffering from being stuck in sleep after closing the lid many times per day.  I have rebuilt and updated many times and the problems remain.  It appears this is a known issue and still has no fix.

    What is the status of this update?  I consider this device unusable in it's current working state.  On top of this I am being asked to purchase these devices at my place of work where i am an IT manager and I am having to say absolutely not.

    When will we see an update to fix this very serious issue.  I see the post at the top of the forum apologizing but what good is an apology if you don't fix it!!!

    Several or maybe many of the Surface Pro 4 users have encountered an extremely vexing problem: the device dos not wake up after going to sleep when the keyboard cover is closed even for a minute or so.  I have read quite a number of posts in this and other forums about this very issue and suggested solutions which do not work all of the time.  I like many other Surface Pro 4 users know that the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Support team do their very best to help us out and you deserve a great big THANK YOU. 

    It's been about 2 hours now that I have tried unsuccessfully to bring my device up to life, to no avail. 

    If you have not done so, please, please, please, do inform the device hardware/software engineer builder teams that this is a major problem that needs to be fixed and fixed promptly.  It doesn't affect just me, it seems to affect a ton of users.

    I purchased the device to be able to work on it because it received rave reviews and I have been an MS user for many years.  However, if this now 1 month old device cannot even wake up, it cannot be used and it becomes an expensive and totally useless computer. 

    It is not the fault of you, the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Support team and Thank You again for your help, but please pass on this very deep frustration all the way up to the CEO if need be.  We ask that the problem be fixed, lest we go somewhere else for our computer needs after returning the device to Microsoft for a full refund.

    Hi Loren, it may be possible to use a special Windows key sequence to wake the screen. Try this:

    • If you have a keyboard connected, press Windows logo key + Ctrl+Shift+ B
    • If you are in tablet mode, simultaneously press both the volume-up and volume-down buttons, 3 times, in quick succession (within 2 seconds).

    If Windows is responsive, you should hear a short beep while Windows attempts to refresh the screen.

    I have been faced with the same exact issue though in my case it just does not wake up even after 5 minutes.  I have also held down the power button to reset the SP4 though it is to no avail.  I let it alone for 30 minutes and then re-turned it back on.  After 15 minutes, the power is on, the touch keys on the keyboard light up, I hear the SP4 running but absolutely no screen. 

    If I cannot see the screen I cannot see my files and thus I cannot back them up to an external drive.

    Has anybody indeed encountered that problem and if so what is the solution, short of seeking professional help to retrieve my files and then return the defective machine to Microsoft? 

    Microsoft Team, please HELP!!!!!!
