I used the .zip download from here and manaully did a driver update on the display driver. The automated install .exe will not install because it doesn't think it is a valid system. You need to update the display driver manually through device manager and
then click on "have disk" or something to manually pick the driver you downloaded.

By the way, this new driver seemed to have solved the screen waking problem for me.
All who are still having wake from sleep problems with the screen--
Please try my solution with the new Intel drivers (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25620/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-1-10-15-40-6th-Gen-),
and if it solves your sleep problem (you should know after trying 10 times I'd wager),
please mark this post as helpful so we can get rid of the solution from the top of this thread that is making everyone so irritated and angry (the 2-button reset non-solution).
This solution is ONLY for the problem where:
- You close the type cover and the SP4 goes to sleep
- You press the power button to put the SP4 to sleep
- You let the system go to sleep via power profile settings after X minutes
- When attempting to wake via the power button or other method, you see the IR camera light up, but there is
NO power sent to the screen.
- You can validate that the system in fact did wake up, but ONLY the screen is dead by trying to remote desktop (I use Teamviewer) to the SP4 and unlocking it. You will see that the system is completely fine and active otherwise, but the screen is not powered
up.
Because this is clearly a driver problem (as evidenced by others who have done the debug analysis of the display driver becoming unresponsive),
I really don't think any of this talk around adjusting sleep times will help.
Either you try this driver update manually, OR you never allow your SP4 to go to sleep (by making the power button hibernate, and disabling sleeping on type cover closure).
There is a possibility that the removal of the graphics driver and letting Windows reinstall the graphics driver will work because you may be downgrading the graphics driver to an earlier version that did not have this problem, but I have not tested that
myself. Others who have can comment on that, but chances are if you go that route, Windows Update WILL update your driver to the problematic version.
For the manual driver update--
(by stlg's request, added intial instructions)
Go to Control Panel>System>Device Manager>Expand Display Adapters>right click on Intel Iris Graphics 540 and go to properties. Then go to the Drivers tab, and click on the Update Driver button.
Again, you need to manually choose the driver to install:

And then point the path at the /graphics/ subfolder of the zip archive you downloaded from intel, where the iglh64.inf file is located to install the driver.
I personally have not experienced Windows Update trying to downgrade my graphics driver back to the problematic version.
Please mark this as helpful and let's get rid of the current top solution!
