We currently have only five Surface Pro 4's deployed, one being the one I'm typing this on. I'm only aware of two having issues (the others may have but no one has complained and I haven't been able to reach them by phone and they haven't commented via several
emails I have sent) the one I use and one other.
I have seen a vast improvement in the following areas on the SP4 I've been using:
Before 01-12-2016
With Microsoft (new cabled) Dock:
When docked to the new Microsoft dock before the latest updates in 01-2016 I would experience loosing the network interface intermittently for about 10-20 seconds about every 10 - 20 minutes. With the 12-2015 Intel display drivers network disconnects lessened
but I'd loose single external 4K monitor video and USB devices for a few seconds about every 20 minutes and then video would come back but mouse and keyboard wouldn't work.
Early on with factory, out of box settings, I'd have black screen issue on dock and off and largely echoed below.
Without Dock
With brand new device on 12-17-2016 installed all available updates. Immediately had black screen/not coming out of hibernate problem, pretty much every time it sat with default screen off/sleep/hibernate after settings. Started testing many settings. Discovered
when I used short sleep and hibernate after settings (2 minutes for each) for both on battery and plugged in I'd never have the problem. I slowly increased the time frames to something livable 15 minutes for sleep and 15 minutes for hibernate after, again
for both on battery and plugged in. With those settings I almost never had the black screen coming out of hibernation issue. I lived with it that way for several days and only experienced the black screen issue one or twice. I increased times to
Later I increased the times again to near defaults and got black screen issue. Decided to install 12-2015 Intel display driver and set sleep and hibernate after to 30m on battery, 4 hours plugged in; hibernate after 15m on battery, never plugged in. With
these settings an Intel driver I had docking issues outlined above.
01-12-2016
Sleep and hibernate after settings unchanged from directly above. Installed all available Microsoft updates, including latest cumulative update. Also rolled back to 11-2015 Microsoft display drivers.
On Dock
All problems gone so far. Have not no black screen (because it never goes into hibernation), have not lost video, usb or network adapter yet. Very pleased.
Off Dock
So far I have not had a single black screen coming out of hibernation. Everything else seems to be working great.
I'll begin to play with sleep and hibernation settings to see if anything changes.
With the other SP4 changing sleep and hibernate after didn't seem to do much, continued to have black screen issue docked/undocked/on battery or plugged in. Installed Intel drivers user complained of loosing usb dongle based wireless keyboard and mouse and
lots of random window minimizing. (But that may be because many wireless USB 2.0 dongles get messed up when plugged into USB 3.0 host port due to RF interference). But since many people complained of on-board mini displayport issues with Intel driver I did
just like I had done - install all Microsoft updates and rollback to Microsoft driver.
Since rolling back to Microsoft drivers and applying all Microsoft updates the user (President for the Alaska branch) he has not complained of any issues. Doesn't mean there are none but haven't heard a peep yet.
