Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

Since it seems some folks believe the "fix" occurred with the last update, it would help to know some specifics.

If you still have the problem waking from sleep:

    1. Is it unplugged, plugged, or both? Laptop and/or Tablet mode?
    2. Is it only when closing the keyboard (seems to be common in this thread), or anytime?
    3. Is it anytime, or only after Sleep for 1 hour or more?

I have not had any black screens since moving to hibernate from sleep, if more than 1 hour, on my I5.  But that's not a fix, and is sort of annoying.  My SP3 goes to sleep and awake with ease, virtually no pause.  Hibernate on this SP4 is a bit slow.

A new driver isn't a temporary hack / workaround.  It's an update from the manufacturer (Intel) to correct problems in an earlier release.  In this instance, the new driver hasn't been incorporated into updates from MS yet.  I'm sure they have their reason

It certainly used to be the case that a driver update from a component manufacture was a valid end user solution (assuming the hardware is compatible)

However my making drivers autoupdate in Windows 10 Microsoft have changed the game. A user installed driver may be overwritten at any time. Hopefully with the official approved version of the suppliers driver, but. Possibly something else.

    Hence

I say it is temporary until an official update comes from Microsoft

I don't like this as it removes user choice but I guess it simplifies support for Microsoft.
