Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

This is happening to me too. I just bought my surface pro a few days ago and it is an excellent device apart from this significant problem. If I can't get a fix for it, i will be forced to return it for a refund. Microsoft's response to reboot the computer every time this happens is completely unacceptable. I need to be able to use this device within seconds of picking no over one minute, having lost all my applications that were open.

This seems to happen more frequently if:

    1. I have usb/display ports attached to devices
    2. close the lid
    3. unplug things (usb, display)
    4. open the lid a few seconds later (maybe a minute)

I get a black screen and have to reset.

This has been my observation as well.  The problem seems to still occur without plugging things in and out, but much less often.  I'm not certain, but I don't think the problem occurred at all before I reset the screen resolution and then plugged in an external monitor.  Not sure which may have been the trigger, because I did them in quick succession, but the problem became very frequent after that.  Always sending the computer to sleep with the button seems to dramatically reduce the incidence, but not eliminate it.  And the use of a secondary screen [see my post a few days ago], which works 90% of the time for me, doesn't always work.  Last night, both screens were black and I had to do a forced re-start.

Btw, my touch screen has temporarily stopped working at the moment, but when this has happened a couple of times in the past, it comes back by itself later . . . ie without me having to restart.
