Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

Mine isn't so bad, but I've had other problems that have been forcing power offs and reboots. I've had no stability problems that are connected to the updated Intel graphics driver as far as I can tell.

I have not had this problem for 5 days since updating the display driver.  Have you tried that yet?  It was easy to do and seems to have resolved the issue. I'd be interested to know though  if anyone has updated the display driver and still has the sleep issue.

A summary of my experience with the newer Intel drivers:

    • The drivers installed context menu items into the desktop context menu.
    • The result of the update was less CPU utilization while YouTubing in Edge, more in Chrome.
    • Videos often played unreliably, online video chopped up and failed miserably, Edge restart would not help, neither would cache purge.
    • External monitors unrecognized intermittently upon wake from Hibernate (mind you, not Connected Standby [CS]), no matter whether the internal DisplayPort or the Surface Dock (=external graphics interface via USB3) was used.
    • WiFi wouldn't connect on resume, ever. It does connect with the old display driver, although I am looking into the stupid Cisco router as well here.
    • I'd plug in headphones while a video/song was running - headphones not detected and/or audio still routed via speakers.
    • Best of all: absolutely non-deterministic BLUE SCREENS at least once in two days of frequent use, citing various failures each time. I have taken pictures and notes of most, if you like.

So I went back to the old, MS-supplied drivers:

    • Blue screen about once a day. One time after the SP4 had been sleeping for 6 hours in CS, docked in, unattended. It probably failed as it tried to wake to Hibernate, now I come to think about it.
    • Event Log full of red errors (see my tweet here). Some of them "disk access driver error" or some such.
    • Can't even see the blue screen most of the time with the old drivers, because it DOES NOT TURN ON before it dumps memory and restarts on its own. I know because it takes time to restart and then back to the Event Log to see what new random errors Santa has brought along today.

Mind you I have no special software running, or silly power settings, or anything else I could attribute this to. Have spent way too much time entertaining myself with these issues rather than working to pay off an expensive device.

It is a black screen of doom, is what this is.

OK, I'd like to ask everyone to share a screenshot of their Windows reliability history, a feature that summarizes all of the most crucial Event Log entries and calculates an ongoing "reliability score" for the machine. It proves that these machines need some serious love from the vendors as well as from those of us who hope to (or are forced to) keep them.

Go to Start, type in "reliability" and hit "View reliability history". Let's compete for the highest score, shall we?

This is mine for the entire period since I've received the device. Never even crossed the 5/10 level: https://twitter.com/Chacaturian/status/691692965476069376
