Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

..after the january firmware update, I wanted manually update the Intel drivers, but the update told me that I have already installed the newest driver.

I hope MS will solve this problem soon, I am very unrelaxed about this

    Greetings,

    Andreas

If you are getting this message, you aren't doing the steps precisely as needed.  This was posted previously, but it's a big thread, and is easy to miss.  These are the steps:

    In Device Manager, Display Adapters:

    • Right-click Intel HD Graphics
    • Click Properties
    • Click Driver tab
    • Click Update driver
    • Click Browse my computer for driver software
    • Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
    • Click Have disk
    • Click Browse
    • Browse to where you unzipped the driver, to the Graphics subfolder.  You should see a file called igdlh64 there.  Select it.
    • Click Open
    • Click OK
    • You should see Intel HD Graphics 520 (or whatever version you have) in the list.
    • Click Next - it will install.

When done, go back and check driver properties, you should see v20.19.15.4352.

Note: be sure to download the .zip instead of the .exe. Once downloaded and unzipped, these instructions can be found in the Installation_Readme.txt file in the driver directory under the heading "Microsoft Windows* 'Have Disk' Installation"

Glad that I already decided to return the unit before it was to late, just hope I'll get the new Dell XPS 13 before I have to send this back so I atleast can get a smooth transition after all the problem that this computer has caused.

Better be careful if that XPS13 is also a Skylake (6th Gen Intel part). A lot of the issues with the surface seem to be Skylake related (graphics, power consumption, etc.), so I'd check the Dell support forums to make sure that they've nailed down the drivers before going with it. Conversely, now might be an excellent time to snag a great discount on a product with a Broadwell/5th Gen part such as the old XPS13 or the SP3 with Windows 8.1: Those have been out long enough that they should actually have functional drivers.
