Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

    I wonder how much of these issues are the result of the November "Threshold" update to Windows 10. Until last week I was running the pre-November build and with the latest (non-Beta) drivers the system was working fine. After updating to the 1511 build, I started getting the wake during sleep issues all over again and now even with the latest Intel Beta drivers, the lock screen doesn't show up on wake and I have to ctrl-alt-delete to get to the login.

    I've installed the new Intel driver. I use a SP4 docking station (the little black box) and the external monitor options work like before. All of them (pc only, duplicate, extend, second screen only).

    Can you try one more thing?  Try attaching the docking cable with the cable going up.  If I connected the docking cable upwards our SP3's and the SP4 (now returned) would lock up after a few moments.  This is without using any of the dock features.  Operation with the cable going down doesn't do the same thing.  I am curious if they fixed that on the SP4.

    * There's no need to actually do anything with the dock other than connect it.

    For the records, I want to document something I noticed yesterday about this ongoing issue.

    We have 2 SP4 in my household, same model - m3. One of them is constantly experiencing the black screen on wake-up. The other one almost never. According to the Event Viewer, the MTDevice could be the culprit as there are always error from this device when the display refuses to come alive.

    Last night, the problematic SP4 was projecting its screen (duplicate mode) via the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter to a large screen TV. At one point, I folded the Type Cover and the SP4 entered sleep mode. As expected, the screen casting stopped.

    When I pressed the power button to wake it up, the SP4 screen remained black but the screen casting resumed and continued flawlessly. Touch events did register properly on the SP4 screen and I was able to control the computer. Still a black screen.

    The screen finally came back to life once the screen casting session was stopped.

    Will try the same scenario with the SP4 that doesn't have the black screen issue and report.
