Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

    Known issue.

    Everyone is waiting for Microsoft on this. We're more than 3 months from launch and they still are unable to fix this insanely annoying bug.

    Also, I guess your Event Viewer has MTConfig errors in the System section matching the time your display went black.

    This is a known bug and is/has been discussed ad nauseum in multiple threads.  As u have discovered, It is related to the display driver and can be alleviated to a great degree by installing Intels latest beta driver.  If you're interested in installing it google Beta_15.40.18.64.4380 . Otherwise you'll have to wait for Microsoft to release it and even The Shadow doesn't know when that will be.

    Your other alternate is to use Hibernate wherever sleep is currently specified.

    So an odd thing...  brand new surface pro 4 (16GB RAM, 512GB SSD).

    from the beginning, about every 3 to 4 times I wake it from sleep, it seemed to be dead.  then one time when it did this, I noticed that the cap locks key light would toggle if I pushed it.  so I figured it wasn't completely off but just frozen.  I would have to force it down, holding the power button, then reboot.  very annoying.

    then one time I tried something, while in this state, I plugged it into an external monitor (usb hub).  it came up on the monitor.  I was able to then use the computer and the main screen would come back on after typing in my password. 

    so it is like sometimes when it is asleep, when it wakes, the monitor is disabled until I log in.  when I am out of the office, I just have to power down and reboot -- which is crappy beyond belief. 

    Thoughts?  any quick keys that would enable/disable the main screen on my surface?

    Whatever the cause and when it appeared, what fascinates me is how long Microsoft is taking to fix an issue that seems to plague a significant amount of SP4. It is their flagship product and it was release more than 3 months ago!

    What the **** are they doing? Didn't they designed this tablet?

    It is, by far, the least reliable Surface device released.

    I owned the Surface RT, the Surface 2 and the Surface 3 before this SP4 and none of them had reliability issues like this. Is the early integration of the Skylake chipset a major mistake? Seems to be. How responsible is Intel in this snafu? Whatever the answer, it is the tons of people who pay the unreliability price.

    And it's getting very pricey.
