Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

That is interesting. Often I either sleep or turn off my Surface Pro 4 and it will go black or turn off ... then if I check it a minute afterwards, it has woken up, trying to find me (recognition) or it is restarting. I think this is different bug from the waking one, but might be related somehow to your experience. Several times I have turned it off only to find it had turned itself on.

Went to open my computer this morning and found that it had shut off with a completely drained battery. Looking at the reliability report, it seems that after shutting the keyboard cover and putting the surface in my bag last night, rather than going to sleep, the surface instead went into overdrive, running down the battery in 45 minutes and completely shutting off. I guess that's one way to fix the sleep issue...

Thank you Dave for your helpful information. I have recognition on also.

I think part of the problem is ... I sometimes do not know whether my Surface is hibernating or not. This means I do not know what to do when I want to wake it. I think it is a bit annoying having to figure out what state it in. Perhaps I will just press the power button anyway.

Sometimes the red light comes on (not being in hibernation) but nothing happens. Hopefully this will gradually go (somehow) because I do not know what this means.

I decided to turn off the Surface Pro 4 overnight so it would have a clean start this morning, so I can then test again the wake problems today and beyond.

For some reason Bluetooth had turned itself off and OneDrive had been lost so it asked me to reconnect it. Cannot be sure whether these were related to the updates, but have not had them before.
