Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

I'm testing a new beta driver from Intel on my Surface Pro 4 i7. I have the intel iris 540 graphics. I'll post my findings with links to the driver and installation if it works.

In the hopes to help debunk this wake issue, I want to report that after the 2/17/16 firmware update, my system started experiencing wake problems.  I did not have this issue before the update (note, I did not apply the facial recognition sign-on).

But, I experienced a different problem where upon wake I’m forced to sign-in - despite having this feature disabled (started a separate blog about this).   I read others, having this same issue, used a registry fix.  I used it and it worked - both the Lock Screen and sign-on screen were no longer present upon wake – this mimicked my system’s behavior before the update.

But, I lost stability and several times, after my registry change, the system would not wake from sleep.  I’ve reset my registry to pre Lock Screen/sign-on screen fix and my system is waking like normal – just I have to experience the Lock Screen/sign-on screen each time.  I’ll take that over not waking at all.

Kind of doubtful, Kevin. The issue lies in the software, not the hardware, so if you install any updates on a new machine you will likely end up right back where you are now.

In the meantime while we wait for MS to acknowledge that the update further screwed up Surface devices, you can either roll back the update via restore, or go into Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options - then change the "lock/power button" and "close lid" functions to hibernate instead of sleep; this way you don't lose what you were doing when you wake the device with the power button.
