Agreed. I guess someone at Microsoft figured the best way to make us satisfied with the incredibly poor quality of the previous firmware was to push one on us that is arguably *worse*.
As someone who formerly headed up all software/firmware for Dell's laptop brands (so I know a little bit about the complex vagaries of OS/firmware interactions, especially in power management code), I cannot for the life of me see how this ever got through
even the most cursory tests, much less got released to every SP4 and SB out there. Given the number of complaints I see in these forums (there are dozens of topics that boil down to his issue), I simply cannot believe that there was any competent testing
done on this firmware upgrade.
Unfortunately, I don't think there's any way to back out firmware "upgrades", so it looks like we're all stuck for months again while they try again. This is quite simply unacceptable -
THERE IS NO EXCUSE POSSIBLE FOR THIS CLUSTER FOXTROT - PERIOD. And I can't even imagine anything that could make this right to SP4/SB customers now.
Several someones at Microsoft should lose their jobs over this continued debacle - can this possibly end in anything other than a very hostile (and possibly quite well-deserved) class-action lawsuit now?
I really *want* to love my Surface Pro 4, but it appears that Skylake cannot be made to work, and the promised capabilities and performance are not only not being delivered, but markedly worse than the SP3, and continually degrading in the SP4 and Surface
Book as time goes on.
Shame on you, Microsoft and Intel, for selling us hardware and software that is incapable of delivering even the most basic laptop/tablet functionality.
Shame on you for not owning up to and communicating the ugliness of this situation clearly, and shame on you for making us wait many months for a "fix" that addresses some problems, but at the cost of breaking other things that are even more fundamental.
After going through SEVEN Surface Pro 3 or 4 units in only a little over a year (three of those were totally unacceptable refurbs from MS support), I've totally lost faith in both Microsoft and Intel to deliver on their promises and stand
behind their products.
