Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

    My SP4 recently would not restart from sleep. Remenisent of the original 'Surfacegate' problems, the keyboard backlight  would come on but the external display would not show anything (I had set to external only as SP$ cannot handle both internal display and 4K external monitor). I had to do the old long power button reset to regain use.

    I contacted SurfaceSupport on twitter and they suggested this tool which so far seems to have resolved the issue

    Congratulations Microsoft, yet again a Windows 10 update has broken one of your own hardware devices.

    Before the June 2017 updates I could have an external display connected to my Surface Pro 4 via DisplayPort. The SP4 could go to standby and resume fine, both displays would come back on again. After the June 2017 updates, when attempting to resume, the SP4 display flashes briefly for Windows Hello and then goes black. Meanwhile the external display is disconnected! You have to physically disconnect the external display in order to get the SP4 display to work again. See this video.

    There is also the fact that the audio connection usually fails the second time you connect an external display. This has been a fault probably for over a year now and is covered by other threads on this forum.

    All of this means that connecting an external display to a Surface Pro 4 is now an utterly broken experience despite the software and hardware being under the control of Microsoft. There is a total lack of attention to detail and frankly basic testing.

    To add insult to injury it's not possible to stop these frequent and breaking updates from being dumped on my machine.

    Is the non-resume issue something Microsoft acknowledges and will correct in a near-future update?  It is really annoying and I hate to have to restart the laptop when my attempt to "hold power button until it prompts you to power off" does not work.

    I hope someone from Microsoft would officially respond and let us know.

    After  update KB4022716 on June 28, the Surface Pro 4 display cannot resume from sleep. You have to unplug the dock and plug again to resume. Or hold power button untill it prompt you to power off.
