Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

    Hi Josh,

    This update did not resolve this issue on my Surface Pro 4.  I had the following 4 updates successfully installed on 2/19/2016:

    • Microsoft driver update for Surface System.Aggregator.Firmware
    • Microsoft driver update for Surface Management Engine
    • System Hardware Update - 17/02/2016
    • Microsoft driver update for Surface UEFI

    However this afternoon my Surface went to sleep and when I tried to wake it back up by pressing the Power button the keyboard backlights came on and the mouse appeared on the screen, but the screen remained black and I had to perform a hard reset to get the screen to come back.

    Do you have any other suggestions for how to resolve this issue?

    Exactly the same here too except I have been able to wake the black screen by Ctl +Alt+Del which brings up the pin input screen.

    Also, for people still getting the battery drain on sleep issue after installing these updates and who installed the Samsung NVME driver as suggested by some magazine - uninstall it! I found it was preventing sleep and rapidly draining the battery. I uninstalled it and have no more issues in Sleepstudy.

    Maybe this thread needs some media attention / pressure in order to get some sort of response from Microsoft... 

    On one hand, I understand the challenges and the bugs. Those things happen, even more so on new architectures. On the other hand, the lack of communication from Microsoft and the Time to Resolution are absolutely un-excusable. Even more so when we are talking about such a high profile device actually sold/designed by Microsoft (and therefore a device that should perform flawlessly when compared to third party products... This is the whole reason that Apple is able to push its product in the way it does. It is in control of both software and hardware, and that has been their major selling point for years. They would never release a device that had those problems. But once again, I digress...

    Hey wonderfully TWICE in a row, it woke from hibernation - with the keyboard attached!

    Amazing! a mere trifle though, is both mouses did not work at all on the second wake, so after about 10 minutes of charging them and changing batteries and trying all kinds of things, I had to long press to shutdown then turn on again. But this is a good, right? Right?
