Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

    We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.

    We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.

    To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

    Hi Josh,

    Unfortunately, after the recent firmware updates, my Surface pro 4 does not sleep correctly.

    When I open the type cover, the screen does not turn on. The IR camera lights up as if it wants to ID me, the keyboard lights come on but the screen does not.

    A hard reset is required to get the machine to boot (hold the power button for 30 secs)

    In addition to this, the unit loses about 50% battery overnight when it should be asleep or in low power mode.

    I have all the latest updates installed and all necessary reboots performed.

    I did this update and now it just flashes "surface" for one second and then turns back off.  So far I've had this for 3 days and have yet to have it function correctly in the on position.  I was hoping maybe I just got a bad one, and if I returned it and got a new one I'd be ok, but it doesn't look like that is the case.  Does anyones SP4 work?

    I have the SP4 with the i7.  All updates installed, but my sleep function still doesnt work.  Have everything set to hibernate for the time being as a work around.  Takes a few seconds to turn on but not as long as a hard reset.

    Over here the machine did the updates but still hit the black screen of death!

    changing fastboot did nothing.. on the contrary if I disable password on wakeup I get a stable result.. even at sleeping for 1:45mins..

    Doing a hard shutoff is not good especially if u have documents.

    Will see the next few hours if I hit this.. if I have time this weekend I can setup ssh or any debugger to grab the offending code, and try to fix, this way I don't have to wait around in limbo
