Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

    Interesting, you're the first I've heard to have the hibernate work around not work. Are all your settings set to hibernate (power button action, lid close action)?

    I am with you on this one... 

    As I have said before, if apple was to put out a device similar to the Surface, and running MacOS instead of iOS, I would definitely jump on it. At least with Apple, you know that the device when coming out of the box would just work (it is then up to you to break it ;)). The key here though is that the basic functions of the 'computer' would work as intended and expected. With all the false advertisement produced by Microsoft, I keep finding myself just hoping and waiting for MSFT to fix the bugs. This is not acceptable at this price point, and for a device made by Microsoft...

    Sadly, it is too late for me to return it, as I have been waiting and hoping for too long. 

    Back to my trusty macbook pro. Don't get me wrong, the macbook has its issues as well, and I am not too excited as to where Apple is taking MacOS, but for my day to day, it is still more reliable and useable than the Surface. 

    If I close the lid on my macbook, it will go to sleep and won't drain the battery extensively. This is kind of an important feature on a laptop (even more so on a tablet), and shouldn't be that complicated a challenge for Microsoft to fix. I am sure they have a few software engineers that could solve this problem...  

    Anyway... the disappointment continues.

    I'm not disagreeing with you but your reason for getting the pro are the same as mine.  It runs a full operating system like a PC.  A simple work around for now is to change all your sleep settings to hibernate for the time being.  It takes a few more seconds (3-5) to come back on, but mine has yet to freeze like in sleep.  I'll live with the 3 to 5 second delay to run a full OS.  Don't get me wrong, I'm really annoyed by the sleep issue MICROSOFT.

    biggest problem with iPad Pro for many is it runs iOS and not the full OS X. I would love a OS X touch device, but now there isn't one. If your apps are available on apple store, you should be fine.

    What are your thoughts of the iPad Pro in place of the Surface Pro 4? I am not in design just want a very portable machine to type and run an virtual fitness accountability group from.
