Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

Maybe a new thread is required?

As I read this thread and the dozens of posts coming in each day, I am stunned at how bad the SP4 is for some, because mine has been pretty great.

    A few notes:

    • i5, 8GB, 256GB
    • I always have the type cover attached
    • I don't use a dock
    • I'm running Windows v1511 Build 10586.104 (via "winver" command)
    • All updates including 2/17 are installed
    • I don't use Windows Hello

If it's in hibernation, I press the power button for half a second.  "Surface" appears on the screen, the dots circle for a second or 2, and the opening picture appears.  I swipe up, enter my password, I'm in.

When it's asleep, I open the type cover, and the keyboard lights up, but not the screen.  I usually tap the power button.  Annoying, but it almost always works.  Otherwise, I use Ctrl-Alt-Del and it lights up.

    Other config settings:

    • Stay connected to wifi even when asleep
    • On batt, turn off display in 10 min, sleep in 30min
    • When plugged in, turn off display in 15 min, Never sleep
    • Hibernate after 120 min

I haven't changed any other settings.  I haven't had to hard reset in a month or more.  Overall, it doesn't wake instantly like my previously used iPad, but it does work pretty reliably.

I have no issues with heat.  Screen brightness is around 55%.  I use it a couple hours per day, and charge it every other day on average.

Interesting, you're the first I've heard to have the hibernate work around not work. Are all your settings set to hibernate (power button action, lid close action)?

Yep. Upon resumption I get the black screen. camera wakes up, I hear an attempt to login, but no display.

You would think that after nearly 100 pages of people chiming in about this issue, it would get some sort of attention. That is if they even read through the forums like they say they do. This NEEDS to have more light shined on it. Tech websites need to start publishing the debacle of the 2/17 update and how it did not fix anything and actually made some things worse. Microsoft needs to be embarrassed for this. Sad thing is, this whole thread is marked as ANSWERED.
