Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

Good luck. My 1 star review has been rejected by the moderator. This is going to be my last Surface Pro, I was disappointed with the first one. I thought the #4 would be the good one. Well, luckily company paid.

I'm wondering if EVERYONE here started asking Panos Panay if his team is doing anything about the problem, would be a better tactic? Just barrage him till he answers.

I bought a surface pro 4 in January to replace an aging ipad and weighty laptop - I wish I hadn't.

Superficially the surface pro is ok but (a) it regularly doesn't start at all and (b) the battery is pathetic even on "darkest" mode.

Neither of these "features" is much use on a portable device. I know there are various bits of advice on "how to fix", but why should I, I paid an awful lot of money for this thing, it should work without me needing to run some sort of IT geek repair every other day.

I have installed all of the updates so does anyone know:

    1. why does it keep not starting
    2. why has Microsoft provided a battery that is definitely not fit for purpose - and what is the plan to address that design fault?
    3. if neither suggestion is user friendly, will Microsoft provide a refund?

SP4 i7 16GB 256SSD - I also left a review with one-star, we'll see if the moderator's post it.  I also sorted the reviews by star and marked as helpful any review that was focusing on the sleep-issue. If more of us mark those as helpful then those reviews will top out and Microsoft might respond to this issue.  I'm getting so sick of this issue, lost another hour of work today because I couldn't get the screen back after being distracted and not saving before leaving the office for a bit and finding the screen black but the keyboard on... I'm using git for almost everything now because of this problem.

Have you tried the following combined keystrokes to reset the display adapter when the black screen occurs:  control+windows+shift+B

Unfortunately, yes, I've tried that many times, it worked once - but I think it was just a coincidence as sometimes there is a delay in the screen appearing by a couple of seconds.  My routine is Win+p, Win+p wait Win+p, Ctrl+alt+del, power+volume-up simultaneously (2 - 3 times) followed by ctrl+win+shift+B, close-reopen type cover try enter, enter, close type cover - attache power, open type cover, try again, close type cover detach power, open type cover, try again.  Finally, hold power down for about 20 seconds till machine turns off, then turn back on, reopen everything, start working and repeat next time the screen won't wake up.

I have the i7/8gb/256gb configuration, I purchased in mid-December shortly after the i7 model came out, also have the type cover and dock. After a few days of owning the SP4 and reading the forums I enabled hibernate on the power menu and pretty much decided that was the way to go as it simply wouldn't wake from sleep reliably. After the 2/17 update, I re-enabled connected standby (and also tried disconnected standby) and still had the same issues waking up and went back to hibernating. And of course I verified the update(s) were applied correctly (which they were). Very disappointing - especially after seeing reports on different sites claiming the issue was resolved once and for all.

A few days later I decided to perform a complete wipe and reload using the latest SP4 Win10 Pro image from MS as well as the latest .msi driver file to apply immediately after re-imaging (though by the time I was up and running the cumulative and 2/17 updates were already downloading in the background). I did disable bitlocker and reset the TPM before wiping the system. It was certainly a hassle having to reload everything but I haven't had a single issue since - it's been 6 weeks of everything working as expected (even with the type cover attached 95% of the time). My SP4 no longer sucks down the battery as badly (I typically see 7+ hours on battery and I use Google Chrome with flash disabled), runs cool on battery and wakes reliably. I'm using disconnected standby (Wi-Fi option unchecked for battery in power & sleep settings) with the default of transitioning to hibernate after 2 hours.

Not sure if it's luck OR if there's something going on with the factory image/config? Re-imaging may be worth a try. Granted, no one should have to go through this, especially with a brand new system, but it may work - it did on mine.
