Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

    I have exactly the same problem with 14 Surface Pro 4's.  Tilting the screen between landscape and portrait using the auto rotate feature /Gyro  consistently brings them all back to life.  Incidentally I also have the same problem with Dell XPS13's but no tilt feature in these, then Windows key and P  4 times then leave for 15 seconds seems to force the display bus to rescan and the screens come to life.

    I think it is an Intel Display Driver issue as both the sp4 and xps13 use the same driver.  I am going to try loading on the Iris 540 beta drivers from the Intel site to see if these fix the problem (version ending 4404)

    my SF pro 4 has the same problem, if sleeping in long time, SF pro 4 can not wake up. With full updating from MS, only keeping power button to shutdown and restart.

    How long MS give a best firmware to fix this problem. It's really bad using all day

    This did not fix it.  As has been said elsewhere, FIX THIS microsoft.  You just CAN'T leave this sort of disruptive problem unaddressed in your overpriced machines.  How many people who can't consistently TURN ON their computer are going to buy another?  Or recommend it to others.  I wouldn't, and I'm otherwise quite pleased with the performance.

    I finally had enough and had some time to try and tackle this:

    • I went to the Microsoft Store on a Friday and explained the problem. They claimed for this not be a very common problem, not unheard of, but not common. They were "very confident" a wipe and restore from their "special" packages would fix the problem. I tried to probe here a bit, and my conclusion was they don't have anything special at all that can't be downloaded by a consumer. After a few tests in the store with no wake issues, I went home.
    • That evening, I had the first #nowake problem. The next day, I had another. Far less frequency than before, but still there. I went back on Sunday and they gave me a new one.
    • New Surface Pro 4:
      • The great news - not a single #nowake for a week now.
      • The bad news - this one has some light bleed, but really only noticeable on the Surface boot screen. My first SP4 had none.
      • None of the following: heat issues, excessive fan, coming on by itself, sleep battery drain.

    As we've all felt, it's a great device when it works. It's been great going into meetings knowing I can rely on it to quickly take notes.

    I'd suggest folks keep swapping out until you get one that works. Much easier if you have a store around you.
