Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

At this rate we should all wait until the last possible week of the 1 year warranty and exchange them.

If one plant is making bad units then can't MS give us proper replacements and go after them for money lost? There would be no reason to keep screwing us over. You can't successfully ignore a mass of people with problems these days

The lot number is on the sticker on the end of the box. My second SP4 (replaced at Microsoft Store on the infamous 17th of February) is lot no. 1601, and it fails to wake more often than not, even though it updated itself to the 2/17 firmware as soon as it was unpacked and started.

The lot numbers look to be a two-digit year followed by a two-digit week number.  If they are, then mine was built the first week of 2016, which seems about right for a machine sold in mid-February.  This is very close to our "properly working" report for a machine in lot 1602 was built only the next week.

There could also be a difference in which ODM or manufacturing plant/line built a specific unit.  (I think Pegatron is the ODM that builds the SP4 and SB, IIRC, but don't hold me to that...)  I kind of suspect ther are differences there because of things like differences in displays (light bleed, which I've never seen), fans/fan noise, etc.  In any case, the way Mfg logistics works in practice, there won't generally be a direct match of mfg dates to features or parts vendors, rev numbers, etc., but rather just a loose, fuzzy correlation as inventories are depleted throughout the supply chain(s).

My situation is a little unusual in that I swapped SP4's exactly ON 2/17, so since I've never had the same machine run two different versions of firmware, I can't really compare before and after, except that fan and hot-bag got better and waking got (much) worse with the new SP4.   My new SP4 is not as quiet as my old SP3s, but it only whooshes when it's really hammered, unlike my first SP4, which ran its very noisy fan most of the time. (Keep in mind that my first SP4 was entirely with the older pre-2/17 firmware, though, which I think made a real difference in the way the fan runs.)

I do believe that the hardware is fatally flawed in the SP4 (and SB?), especially if not brand new.  We need to know for sure which ones are likely to suffer which problems, and I don't expect MS is going to tell us that - if they were going to do a recall, I think they'd have done it already, and I'm not particularly looking forward to losing two days changing to a new SP4 *again* (for the tenth time?  I've lost count...) unless I'm *really* sure it's going to fix everything.  On the other hand, as another poster noted here, I do own the world's lightest and thinnest touchscreen desktop computer, I just can't count on using it anywhere else...

It can't be hardware since mine went from almost never waking up to almost working properly after the February update. Also because that Deezer app seems to prevent the problem. Think I'll download it and see what happens.

I asked him if this was one of the later lot numbers, and he looked up and nodded.

Do you have a lot number for the old and new Surface you can give us?

My new lot no. is 1602.  The old one was in the 1400s... can't remember exactly.

I bought mine in February from Amazon, and my lot number is 1605.  I have the problem with it not waking from sleep.  I'm guessing that a higher lot number doesn't exactly mean that a hardware issue has been fixed since my lot number is higher than yours.
