Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

    Well having suffered with this like so many here since late last year I'm 99.9+% certain this has now been resolved with the anniversary update.

    I tested this with USB root back to the default with power saving on after Windows Update with various sleep lengths up to the 2 hours default hibernation mark and worked fine.

    I then wiped the SP4 with a clean install with the Media Creation Tool and blitz all partitions. Then again, tested it with no apps installed up to the 2 hour Hibernation mark. Then again with all the Store and Win32 Apps installed and still worked flawlessly. Finally installed my Norton Security Package and tested again and still working good. Battery drain is also very good looking at SleepStudy.

    One thing I have noticed is whenever it wakes, it makes a "USB plug-in" sound which it never used to. So it makes me wonder how the USB Root workaround might have been involved someone (like someone already pointed out before the update) and if something has been changed at the core which simply couldn't be fixed previously with driver updates?. I never believed this was a hardware issue because a few (admittedly not many) higher LOT users reported having the sleep of death issue.

    I just reset my machine and it was working absolutely fine, no crashes. No sleep problem for the few hours I was using it. Then windows 10 updated to the latest 1511 version and the crashes started all over again (when on battery). Looks like the problem is related to the latest windows 10 builds

    Update: switched off USB root hub power management in device manager and this has resolved all my issues. Thanks guys!

    I have also been getting the freeze issue. I returned my original SP4 and received a brand new lot 1621 SP4. It still had the sleep issue so I switched off sleep and used hibernate instead. It was working perfectly until recently it started freezing pretty much every time I leave it idling on battery. No problem when plugged in. I contacted MS who said just to return it which I'm reluctant to do since I've put a very nice skin on this one. I'll try your USB Root Hub solution, though I have no idea what it is yet. Gonna be doing a lot more reading. One thing's for sure though, this forum is more helpful than any MS rep I've spoken to, so I'm glad to have found you guys.

    Same here.  I have been struggling with the sleep hang problem.  My work around was to use hibernate instead disabling sleep.  With the July updates, my Surface Pro 4 would freeze after sitting for more than 15min.  After visiting this forum again, I tried the USB Root Hub save power disable.  I've reset all other power settings and now my surface works just like it did when I bought it except for the one setting noted.  Oddly, I'm not experiencing excessive power drain as I would have expected.  Hoping this means we are very close to Microsoft figuring this out and I (we all) can move on from this.
