Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

    I bought the surface pro 4 when it was just released too.

    It was buggy from the start.

    The 2/17 update did not fix it. It keeps crashing.

    Had to put it on hibernate for everything like you as well.

    I bought it at an IT fair and I wonder if I can get my set replaced easily.

    I use it for work and I teach classes of students. My colleague bought a surface book as well. He has so many issues with his computer in addition to the sleep crash problems. He refers to it as an extremely expensive paper weight.

    Our mutual students now joke about it.

    Apart from this unforgiveable issue, and maybe the surface pen failing from time to time, I actually quite like the surface pro...

    Looks like it doesn't pay to be an early adopter where MS is concerned. Totally stinks.

    For those of you with the lot number greater than 1602 and having no sleep problems, can you run the cpu-z program from cpuid.com and post your result?

    Mine looks like this (date code 1550, I do have the sleep problem - I'm very confident at this point that it's a cpu crash that causes it):

    Regarding Insider Build 14316, the release notes state that there was a known potential problem with Hello. That issue aside, other parts of the web are noting that build 14316 is the first build that has broken Norton Security. After getting the BSOD several times after installing 14316, I finally found a reference to the Norton problem.

    In my case, I removed Norton, activated Microsoft Defender, and in a leap of faith set my power/sleep settings to Default. With fingers crossed I can say that my SP4 has been sleeping/waking properly on/off charger for 48+ hours. Battery drain is minimal with few background apps running and even Hello is behaving. My SP4 is an i5/256/8, the code on the back is 1724 and the box Lot No./Date is 1550.

    You hit the nail on the head below. My 4 year old, cheapo HP Laptop doesn't have any issues with sleep, or anything else for that matter.

    (one that, for some miraculous reason, no other tablet maker on the planet seems to be plagued by...).
