Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

Agreed, I would have preferred going to the store. I just moved to Dallas Fort Worth and while they once had two stores in Dallas they are both now permanently closed......

    I wonder why :)

You know I got tired of waiting for a fix and of course the 4/19 fix didn't really fix anything at least for me. I recommend that everyone just call Microsoft and send them back to them for an exchange. I mean enough is enough, it seems that people are having good results with the new ones and replacements so why keep fooling with this nonsense.

Send them back for replacement before the warranty expires on you.

PS they will send you a replacement and then you can send yours back within 15 days.

Very good advice; however, one additional recommendation; if you have access to a Microsoft retail store handle the exchange thru them.  They are far more motivated and helpful then the MS helpdesk and if you make a good case with them you can end up with a new SP4 not a refurb.  After all, your sp4 has been faulty since the day you received it, which in my view justifies a new unit not a refurb.

    Just another data point.

Prior to 4/15 my Pro 4 would routinely crash if left sleeping overnight. I was routinely using Hibernate instead of Sleep.

After installing the Watchdog timer update and the 4/15 Intel driver updates my Pro 4 miraculously became a reliable sleeper. I was about to post this when the 4/19 updates arrived and installed without problem.

Wakeup from sleep was still good but some bugs appeared. The most serious was that if WiFi was not enabled during sleep the service would not restart at awaken. It was necessary to restart the OS to get the service back. The work around is not to sleep WiFi.

Other observations, although I cannot be certain when these appeared.

It is no longer possible to add Sleep and Hibernate to the Start menu Power item.

Although password is set to not be required after Sleep and Hibernation, Hello still comes up after sleep. It does not come up after Hibernation

I use a U-blox7 USB GPS receiver to navigate maps (Highly recommended BTW - $14 on EBay. Installs in a snap. Very sensitive and accurate. ) It has an LED showing signal acquisition, It does not power off during sleep. It does power off during Hibernation. A USB mouse is turned off during sleep. Maybe this behavior for the U-Blox is by design.

The display driver has gone backwards in its ability to show minor roads clearly  in Maps. The gamma setting for the display is set correctly. Maybe this is really a Map app problem as visibility of minor roads is not all that good on other displays.

I hope someone in MS is monitoring for these kind of reports.
