Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

    unfortunately I get that sometimes on my keyboard, I just unplug the keyboard and then reconnect it. It sucks but I am still fighting the whole sleep problem so I have bigger fish to fry :) Just waiting on the replacement now.

    I discovered this community thread after encountering the SP-4 version of the "screen of death."  I only use my Surface Pro 4 during travel, so it has not had everyday use since purchase in October 2015.  The problem occurred for the first time after a trip last week.  The only thing I had done differently was put it in airplane mode while on a flight.  I did a Power OFF shutdown on the plane and all seemed well until I opened it at home--black-grey screen and lit keyboard.  There was no response until I followed the instructions in this thread about holding the power and volume buttons.  It came back okay, but I have been concerned about the machine after reading all of the problems with early versions.

    Today, I have had Surface on for observation only for about 4 hours now with no problems.  I opened some Office documents to see if they were available upon wake-up.  It goes to sleep every 5 minutes but awakens on command.

    I have one of the early machines (LOT 1541).  Here is the info on processor and settings:

    Windows 10 Pro  LOT 1541

    Processor  Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6300U CPU @ 2.40GHz  2.50 GHz

    Installed RAM  4.00 GB

    System type  64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

    Pen and touch  Pen and Windows touch support with 10 touch points

    Running with:

    Battery saver OFF

    Screen—turn off after 5 minutes (battery) 10 minutes (plugged)

    Sleep—sleep after 5 minutes (battery) 10 minutes (plugged)

    Stay connected to Wi-Fi while asleep

    Tablet mode OFF

    SOFTWARE INSTALLED:  Office, Google Chrome, Dropbox, Acrobat Reader

    So I installed all of the programs that I had installed on my (lot 1550) computer on the new (lot 1604) computer - so far I have not had a single issue with sleep. Battery consumption is tiny and the computer wakes up regardless of how long it has been sleeping. The default setting on hibernate is like 240-minutes so on one of those deep sleep cycles, it properly went to hibernate. So far this thing looks solid - I'll report back late in the week.

    Well, well, well. I went pack to my surface ot see how back up was and After I restarted I noticed the Fan was off. Thinking it might have failed after being on continuously I looked in Reliability Data and saw

     Microsoft driver update for Surface Embedded Controller Firmware

    forced update just happened.

    I've no idea yet if it's fixed sleep but will return to my policy of using Hibernate and waiting for MS to fix the sleep. It's annoying but just about liveable with!
